I must start with a confession: I asked to do this review because of Danny Kaye's portrayal of Hans Christian Andersen. As a child I loved the movie, and my family had the sound track on a thick black seventy-eight. Maybe that is where my love of folklore originated. I have, of course, discovered that the movie was a misrepresentation of the man, but a part of me still holds it dear.
