The Handel & Haydn Society helped celebrate the opening of Symphony Hall in 1900 with a performance of Mendelssohn's "Elijah." This fall, H & H will celebrate the hall's centenary with the same work.
Christopher Hogwood will conduct the Oct. 20 and 22 performances of "Elijah," which will open his farewell season as artistic director of the period-instrument orchesta and chorus. Metropolitan Opera star James Morris will sing the title role. Local choruses Boston Cecilia and Coro Allegro also will participate.
