When Jim Viera, artistic director of Boston Youth Moves Dance Company and cofounder of Jeannette Neill Dance Studio, first started booking guest artists, "all of my agreements were gentlemen's agreements," he says. "That is, we talked about it and shook hands." But as projects became more involved and the guest artist roster grew beyond Viera's circle of personal contacts, he developed his own contract. "It's important for all projects, if for no other reason than to have stated in writing what's expected for both parties," he says.
