Dunedin, Fla. -- You've heard of the butterfly effect. For Syracuse Chiefs outfielder John-Ford Griffin, it was the "snowball effect."
It started last April, when a burglar broke into Griffin's Syracuse apartment and swiped nearly $20,000 worth of Griffin's stuff. Then Griffin tried to play through a forearm injury that got worse and cost him one month on the disabled list.
Shortly after returning from that injury, he dove for a fly ball and his right shoulder slammed into the rock-hard Astroturf at Syracuse's Alliance Bank Stadium. The Astroturf was fine...
