Watermelon Nights

Hyperion (Sept.) Growing up poor on California streets, Greg Sarris didn't know his father. His mother was white, German Jewish and Irish, and only later did he learn that his dad was American Indian, part Coast Miwok, part Pomo. Surviving abusive foster homes, Sarris was subsequently raised by his father's people, and by then he knew what it was to live in two worlds, too dark for one, too fair for another. This reality fuels his 1994 story collection, Grand Avenue, and resonates deeply throughout Watermelon Nights.
