The 'Poema de Mio Cid' makes use of geography to link the narrative sections together. The poem is the only extant complete Spanish epic poem, telling the tales of a Castilian exile's battles and travels. Separate narrative sections cover the exile route, the Valencia campaign, Ximena's journey to Valencia and a journey to Corpes. There is a rough match between the story's geography and the Spanish landscape, but the semiotics of place names includes narrative structure besides location.
