The passage of a new Farm Bill will enable the dairy industry to engage in futures trading for cheese. Futures contracts will enable cheese manufacturers to lock in prices in advance, avoid inventory losses due to cheese price changes, and removing fluctuations from the cash market. Futures contracts will also allow some firms to use them as a marketing tool, enabling them to offer customers regular deals on predetermined production prices.
