Fred Bauer's father built several businesses and moved his family 16 times in the process. That created a 'very exciting childhood' and many opportunities to learn about entrepreneurship, Bauer said.
At age 23, Bauer launched Simicon Co., a manufacturer of electronic furnace-control units. A Fortune 500 company bought Simicon in the early 1970s, and the sale gave Bauer the capital to start Gantax in 1974. It produces automatically dimming rearview mirrors and fire protection products.
