A memorial service was held yesterday in Belfast, Maine, for Francis Parkman Jr., an educator and social activist who died Wednesday at home. He was 76. Mr. Parkman was educated at St. Mark's School in Southborough, where his father, Francis Parkman, was headmaster. He graduated from Brooks School in North Andover in 1941, and from Harvard College in 1945. Mr. Parkman then entered the Navy, serving as a communications officer aboard a destroyer in the Pacific. After his Navy service, he began teaching Latin and English at the Brooks School. He returned to Harvard and received a master's degree...
