1999 A year of Growth for the Paint Industry
The fourth quarter results for 1999 showed that the paint industry was continuing to share in the economic good times of the country. The total industry had an increase of 2.1% in volume to 1.3 billion gallons, with the value of shipments increasing 4.6% to $16.3 billion. Although the volume growth was not robust, the increase in value indicated that price increases were being passed along to the customer. Only special-purpose coatings showed a decline.
