When Angel Reynolds lived in New York she drank water from the tap. But when she moved to the District in 1979, she started to buy bottled water.

"I've never liked D.C. water. It tastes tainted and bad," said Ms. Reynolds, who works for the D.C. Housing Authority. "I might have to pay more, but it's worth it."

Whether they have always bought bottled water, or they have just started because of recent conflicting reports over whether the water might be dangerous to some people, many D.C. residents have chosen not to trust government officials who say the water is safe.
