For Altman, screenplay is just a blueprint

Screenwriter Anne Rapp wrote Robert Altman's new film, "Dr. T and the Women," and the actors -- Richard Gere, Kate Hudson, Farrah Fawcett and Shelley Long, among others -- improvised scenes.
What exactly, then, does Altman do? The question is only slightly facetious.
The 75-year-old Altman, director of such classics as "MASH" and "Nashville," started directing television almost 50 years ago. He admits he has refined the process to fit his personality.
