The year was 1971 and the time was right to introduce a new race to Idaho drag fans at three-year-old Firebird Raceway, located in the foothills just northwest of the state's capital city of Boise. The first order of business was naming the new event After kicking around a variety of ideas, Ignitor seemed perfect.
