The pleasures of the table are one of the joys of travel. But new foods and new flavors can become favorites fast - leaving one desolate at moving on.
Last June I stood for a long time in front of the display cases at the marvelous Pane e Saluto Italian Bakery in Woodstock, Vt. Before leaving town I copied down the names and descriptions of all the things I'd been enjoying: Biscotti di Dina (tender orange cookies like little cakes), Ciambellini (crunchy anise cookie typically served with dessert wine), Meino (delicate cornmeal buns that are the scones of northern Italy).
