Geoffrey Frohnsdorff, 78, a scientist and administrator at the National Institute of Standards and Technology, died of esophageal cancer March 5 at a nursing home in Potomac. As chief of the institute's Building Materials Division, Dr. Frohnsdorff oversaw research on the durability of building materials and the operation of the construction materials reference laboratories. He worked at the institute, previously known as the National Bureau of Standards, from 1973 until he retired in 2002.
