Frederick E. Smith, 55, a retired supervisory deputy U.S. marshal who worked in the areas of criminal investigation, court and witness security and protection of prominent persons, died of cancer Sept. 22 at his home in Fort Washington. Mr. Smith was born in Washington. He graduated from Dunbar High School and attended the University of the District of Columbia. He served in the Army in the late 1950s.
