The face is a subject of universal interest in art; its symmetry creates a natural focal point. The German Expressionists, influenced by the art of the African mask, created powerful facial images in relief prints. The students in my fifth period art class at North Syracuse Junior High School took part in studying, researching and creating a mask-like face in a three-color linoleum reduction print. Each mask was powerful because it was a direct expression of the individual who created it.
