A study focuses on the design of a topology management application that monitors the topology of point-to-point networks in which each network is limited to local trunk information. Information should be collected from network nodes for the construction and continuous update of the topology map. This should be done in real time without taking up a significant portion of the network bandwidth. Results show that the incremental cost associated with network traffic is relatively lower than polling for local connectivity information.
