One feature of many languages is that they happily adopt words from other languages, transmuting them into new forms and different pronunciations, sometimes with new meanings or, at least, new connotations. Many, including English even transmute their own words, spinning off variant forms with variant meanings. This can be a source of confusion and, as we hope to show, a source of enlightenment.
