Born in 1851, Sir Henry Solomon Wellcome worked throughout his life in medical research. he attended the Chicago College of Pharmacy and the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy, where he graduated at the age of 20. he began research on indigenous plant remedies which might prove to be of value to pharmacy. His interest in compressed medicines took him to England, where he became immediately successful in the sale of compressed drugs from America, distinguished by their accurately measured and easily administered doses.
