Egypt marks 30th anniversary of gigantic Nile dam at Aswan

Aswan, Egypt -- Egypt last week marked the 30th birthday of the Aswan High Dam with pomp and pride, celebrating a feat of engineering and political might that brought electricity to millions but also created huge problems.
Crowds lined the streets of Aswan, clapping and cheering as children marched to the beat of a high school band. Officials lighted a torch to inaugurate a plaque on the dam commemorating its anniversary.
