Egypt marks 30th anniversary of gigantic Nile dam at Aswan By MARIAM FAM Associated Press Sunday, January 21, 2001 Aswan, Egypt -- Egypt last week marked the 30th birthday of the Aswan High Dam with pomp and pride, celebrating a feat of engineering and political might that brought electricity to millions but also created huge problems.
