Elgin Community College pitcher Chris Schultz did not start the ninth inning under the best of circumstances.
The Elgin High product allowed Carl Sandburg College's Brian Fanetti and Brandon Oelman to start the inning off with singles, leaving ECC's 4-2 advantage in serious jeopardy.
Schultz responded by catching the next two Carl Sandburg batters looking as the Spartans walked away with a narrow 4-3 nonconference victory in Elgin.
