A Dy(III) ion-selective electrode based on 6-hydrazino-1,5-diphenyl-6,7-dihydropyrazolo[3,4-d ]pyrimidine-4(5H)-imine (HDDPI) as an excellent sensing material was developed. The sensor exhibits a Nernstian behavior (a slope of 19.6 ± 0.3 mV per decade) over a wide concentration range (from 1.0 × 10^sup -1^to 8.0 × 10^sup -7^ M Dy) with a detection limit of 4.2 × 10^sup -7^ M. The sensor response is independent of pH of the solution in the pH range 3.5-8.3.
