Americans think of racism as an American problem. We have a long and inglorious history of enslaving or otherwise oppressing non- whites and we see the vestiges of that history around us everyday. Consequently, we sometimes forget that racism is endemic throughout the world. And we forget that other nations engaged in, profited from and still bear the scars of the African slave trade.
