Rain this week benefited the Miami Valley's soybeans, but came too late to undo drought damage to the corn crop. The region is in the grips of a "moderate" drought, according to the Palmer Drought Index, though crop observers said the drought conditions seem to be in pockets, often about the size of a township. Parts of south-central Ohio, meanwhile, are experiencing a severe drought.
