Actors tranforming themselves for movie roles is an old story in Hollywood. Memorable examples include Robert De Niro packing on 60 pounds to play boxer Jake La Motta in "Raging Bull," Renee Zellweger ballooning up for "Bridget Jones's Diary," and Christian Bale getting dangerously gaunt in "The Machinist."
