The original name of the novel was "The Un-Dead," but the author changed it to "Dracula," which, since it burst into print 100 years ago, has never been out of print. First translated into Icelandic, it has been published in 27 languages, with more than 100 editions in more than 50 countries. His continuing choke hold on the world's imagination may amuse the thirsty old Transylvanian as he celebrates his centenary, but the count has had hundreds, maybe thousands, of birthdays.
