Douglas S. Crocket of Yarmouth, a lifelong newspaperman and longtime director of Globe Santa whose heart-rending stories led thousands to dig deep each Christmas and provide presents for needy youngsters, died of colon cancer yesterday in Cape Cod Hospital in Hyannis. He was 70. Mr. Crocket wasn't a journalist. He was a reporter. A reporter of the old school: a tough-talking sweetheart who could converse cynically about current affairs from his perch atop a barstool in the Venetian Garden in Dorchester, then hustle back to the Globe building on Morrissey Boulevard and crank out a human interes...
