Threatening skies over Guam took the Pacific by storm
To my left, the spiral arms of Typhoon Jelawat spawn huge, embedded thunderstorms, monsters of black cloud and lightning with classic anvil tops towering nine miles above the normally placid Philippine Sea. The clouds reach out for me, deadly in their beauty. I can't help being fascinated by the soft mushroom shapes. Most weather in the Pacific is benign and peaceful.
