A BRITISH scuba diver is recovering in an Australian hospital after a 40-hour ordeal in the Pacific Ocean.
Police yesterday described Paul Lucas's survival as a "miracle" after he spent 24 hours in rough seas clinging to his air tank before clambering on to a rocky outcrop where he waited for help for another 15 hours.
Mr Lucas, 37, a computer programmer from Leicester, was rescued from uninhabited Split Solitary Island, five miles off the northern New South Wales coastline, early yesterday, nearly two days after he disappeared during a recreational dive near Coffs Harbour.
