Like everybody else in the English-speaking world Dee Dee was positively poleaxed by the news that trendy Vanity Fair editrix Tina Brown has been appointed to the helm of the venerable and hitherto sacrosanct New Yorker. As a subscriber, if not exactly a regular reader, Dee Dee was outraged, and joined with her fellow cultural elitists in decrying Brown's appointment as the worst thing to happen to American letters since Jay McInerney moved to Nashville.
