The declining trend in fertiliser consumption in the UK is likely to continue for the next few years. In a review of fertiliser usage and consumption over the past four years, reported in ASI, the UK Fertiliser Manufacturers Association (FMA) foresees little change. While nitrogen usage on all crops and grass increased from 133kg/ha in 1988 to 143kg/ha in 1991, according to the Survey of Fertiliser Practice, the increase was mainly attributable to increased nitrogen usage on grassland.
