If genius is the capacity for taking infinite pains, then William Schwann was a cataloging genius. The founder of the Schwann Record and Tape Guide and a longtime resident of Lincoln, Schwann died June 7 at age 85. His death seems, somehow, to formally bring to a close the era of the classical LP.
A native of Illinois raised in Kentucky, Schwann moved East to attend graduate school at Boston University. A graduate of the University of Louisville School of Music, he studied organ with E. Power Biggs and Raymond Robinson as well as working with some of the greats in the Harvard Music Departme...
