David Bruce Balfour Sr. of Amherst, N.H., a retired firefighter, state investigator, law enforcement official, entrepreneur and tireless fund-raiser, died Sunday at his lakeside home after a battle with cancer. He was 68.
Born and raised in Melrose, he was educated in Melrose schools. He later attended continuing education courses at Northeastern University, North Shore Community College and Haverhill Trade School. He moved to his home on Baboosic Lake in Amherst 10 years ago, having formerly lived in Melrose and Malden.
He served in the Army and the Air Force Reserves.
