IN THE Hindu religion, it is said that paying homage to the sun can erase past misdeeds. This belief leads thousands to a beach on the eastern coast of India around this time each year, where devotees of the sun god bathe in the sea and walk up the rocks to an ancient sun temple, greeting the sunrise with prayers. This ritual, called the Chandrabhaga festival, and the history behind the sun temple will be described this weekend in a dance- drama titled "Konark."
