THE D H Evans name is to vanish from Oxford Street after 144 years, writes Patrick Hosking.
The department store will carry the name House of Fraser as part of a GBP 12 million revamp which will bring new escalators, air conditioning and modern lighting. House of Fraser chief executive John Coleman said: "Our experience of other name changes is that it is not a big deal for shoppers." House of Fraser recently renamed its Dickins & Jones shop in Milton Keynes and Rathbones in Leamington Spa.
