"Cynewulf and Cyneheard": a woman screams. (feminist reading of a tale from the 9th century Anglo-Saxon Chronicle)

Translations of and commentary on "Cynewulf and Cyneheard," an entry in the 9th century "Anglo-Saxon Chronicle," have been distorted by the male perspectives of those reading the work and the original writer. A feminist review of the account offers an alternative to the viewpoint that the woman mentioned is the cause of Cynewulf's death. Examination of Old English phrases suggests that past male readers have overlooked a number of the woman's possible roles, relegating her to the background without much consideration.
