TOUR debutant Karsten Kroon had tears in his eyes yesterday after bagging his first major stage win three years after turning professional.

The 26- year- old Rabobank rider topped a Dutch 1-2-3 at the finish line of the 217km eighth stage between St Martin de Landelles and Plouay in Brittany to deny the French a win on Bastille Day.

After more than four-and-a-half hours of riding, most of which was well in front of the main peloton, he crossed the line ahead of compatriot Servais Knaven, riding for the Belgian Domo outfit.
