There were lots of tears, some scuffles and a few settlers and intruders who insisted on being carried out, but by and large the forced evacuation of about 8,000 Jews who first moved to the Gaza Strip at government urging after the Six-Day War in 1967 began smoothly enough on Wednesday that the Israeli military said most of the 21 settlements would be empty by Sunday night.
There had been fears that radical Jewish settlers might barricade thems...
