THE author of "Little Lord Fauntleroy" was the J.K. Rowling of her time. Frances Hodgson Burnett (1849-1924), like the creator of Harry Potter, lived a rags-to-riches success story as the bestselling author of her day. She made a fortune by writing a children's novel that appealed to grown-ups and became a hit as a serial, a book and a play.
