WHEN ASKED ABOUT THE BIOGRAPHY Ira Nadel was writing about him, Tom Stoppard, perhaps the English language's greatest living playwright, remarked, "I want it to be as inaccurate as possible." Elsewhere, Stoppard has said, "I never demand corrections.... If enough things that are untrue are said about you, no one will know what really is true."
