Peter Van Veen and his wife, Susan, will welcome six couples into their DuPage County home tonight to share a meal and exchange ideas about race.

"It's an opportunity to get a better understanding about other ethnicities," he said. "It helps you walk in someone else's shoes."

The Van Veens, of Woodridge, are among more than 30 couples in the city and suburbs hosting small dinner parties that are bringing together people of different races.
