Lewis Henry Morgan was trained as a lawyer.
But his claim to fame came in the field of anthropology, which he helped found.
His study of Native American culture and familial relationships in cultures throughout the world led this man who grew up on a farm in Aurora to become known as "the father of American anthropology."
His fame and place in history now are displayed for all to see in a historical marker put up Saturday at his birthplace and early childhood home. The marker was the work of Thomas Eldred, former Cayuga County historian.
