In addressing the issue of product liability litigation, Richard Mahoney, the former chairman and CEO of Monsanto Co., correctly asserts that punitive damages exist to punish wrongful conduct and to deter future egregious behavior {"Punishment Without End," op-ed, June 15}. But Mahoney also states that a defendant ought not be held accountable more than once for the "same act or course of conduct," that only one punitive damage award should be allowed. Mahoney conveniently ignores the fact that if one award is not sufficient to address a course of conduct and prevent future additional injuries...
