Computers, satellites add precision to farmers' chores
New systems reduce fertilizer, pesticide use, track yield more closely

Mike Cerny isn't just harvesting crops when he drives his combine through corn, soybean and wheat fields on his farm. He's harvesting data.
The combine has a small computer, called a yield monitor, that's hooked up to a global positioning system receiver. The computer tracks bushels per acre and soil moisture as the machine rolls across the field.
