City and state officials have asked South Boston bars and liquor stores to curtail operations during the neighborhood's St. Patrick's Day parade this month, to curb public drunkenness and make the festivities more family-friendly. Along with officials from the mayor's office, Licensing Board chairman Daniel F. Pokaski suggested to South Boston bar owners at a meeting last week that they close for a couple of hours following the parade, in hope that people will "get out of town and stay out of trouble."
