Charles L. Donnelly Jr., 64, a retired Air Force general who was a fighter pilot in the Vietnam War, the top U.S. commander in Japan and finally commander in chief of all U.S. and NATO air forces in Europe, died of cancer July 3 at Malcolm Grow Medical Center at Andrews Air Force Base. Gen. Donnelly, a resident of Arlington, was born in Barberton, Ohio. He joined the Air Force as an aviation cadet in 1951 after his graduation from Otterbein College in Westerville, Ohio, and became a pilot the following year. In the course of a career extending over four decades, he logged more than 8,000 hours...
