Jamie Babbit wants to make one thing clear: Her satire "But I'm a Cheerleader" isn't recycled John Waters. Yes, it's a tongue-in-cheek Day-Glo skewering of suburban mores, and yes, it features Waters staple Mink Stole in a cameo. But the film reflects what Babbit calls a "femme aesthetic" that is purely her own, drawn from obvious feminine pop-cultural sources such as Barbie and less-obvious ones such as the Tatum O'Neal/Kristy McNichol film "Little Darlings."
