The Voice catches up with memoir author Ishmael Beah at Columbia

Ishmael Beah's publisher wouldn't allow the Voice to interview him, so the Voice sought out the author himself last week at a public appearance in Manhattan.

Beah, the elusive author of a celebratedand controversial-memoir about his experiences as a child soldier during the civil war in Sierra Leone, surfaced Thursday at the John Jay College of Criminal Justice for a talk sponsored by the Department of African Studies.
