The top headline on the Web site of the Republican National Convention boasts: "Delegate Diversity: The most diverse group of delegates in party history."

The Republicans say that people of color will make up a record 17% of delegates and alternates. That is halfway home in a nation where about 33% of people are of color and indeed, for them, a dramatic increase from 2000 and 1996, when the delegate percentages were respectively 10% and 6.3%.
